Introduction
Do you believe the existence of aliens is simply a phenomenon? Think again. One of the first sightings of an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) was reported on January 18, 1644 in Boston, Massachusetts. A voice described as dreadful was heard many times, even 14 days from the initial report. There was a strong belief that this was the voice of an alien who arrived on the UFO (Klein, Christopher, “America’s First UFO Sighting” ). Betty and Barney Hill of New Hampshire were the first people to claim they were actually abducted by aliens in 1961 (Dickey, Colin, “ They Knew What They Had Seen”). In 1996, 20 percent of Americans believed in the existence of aliens. By 2022, that number rose to 34 percent (Fleck, Ann, “ More Americans Now Believe in Aliens”). There have been reports across the country of alien sightings. Does it go any further than these sightings, or is the government trying to hide and cover up a much larger conspiracy?
Character Analysis
What are aliens? As google said aliens are “ intelligent” and “ sneaky creatures” and you can find examples of what people assume the aliens could look like. You can find pictures of a greenish or blue creature with creepy looking skin. In the article America’s First UFO Sighting, “As John Winthrop wrote in his diary, Three men had seen two lights arise out of the water near the north point, but vanished away as they approached the south point of the shore” (Klein). As time has passed by, multiple people believe they have seen aliens or believe that they are hiding somewhere on the earth. UFO sightings are one of the most popular theories to be discovered over the years.
How do people describe these creatures? They are very intelligent and they stay hidden so perfectly without ever being seen, so they say. According to Betty and Barney Hill in a 2023 article. “ They were driving home on route 3 through the white mountains when they saw a light appear in the distance around 10 p.m. They would continue to follow the light and even stop to get a better look at it. They arrived home around 5 am, which they couldn’t explain because they should have arrived home at 2:00. Betty slowly started to tell people they had seen an alien spaceship, and eventually they both underwent hypnosis. And would come to believe they had been taken aboard the alien spaceship” ( Dickey).
Aliens can be fun to look at and see during the spooky season. But, these small creatures can also be super sneaky and possibly harmful to others on earth. There have been many reports and rumors about aliens in the town of Roswell, New Mexico. The town of Roswell is well known for possibly being home to one of the UFO crash sites. In the article Roswell,
“a rancher had discovered unidentifiable debris in his sheep pasture. Although the government says it was just a weather balloon, many people to this day still believe the theories of it being a UFO” ( history.com).
Conspiracy Theories
Are aliens real–There have been several conspiracies documented. In the first conspiracy, “three men had seen two lights arise out of the water near the north point, but had vanished away as they approached the south point of the shore” ( Klein). The first conspiracy is a sighting of what people believed to be aliens. Extraterrestrial life is believed to also exist on other planets like Mars,Europa and Enceladus (slate). This was reported as the first unidentified flying object (UFO) sighting to be discovered on January 18,1644. John Winthrop would record the suspense that surrounded the events. As the night would continue to become more suspicious, it was also said that “About the same time, a voice was heard upon the water between Boston and Dorchester, calling out in a most dreadful manner, ‘Boy! Boy! Come away! Come away!”(Klein). This dreadful voice would continue to be heard several days later by the people on the other side of town. This left them with questions in their mind’s what these noises could be or what creature is out there.
The second conspiracy is the Betty and Barney Hill case.
“The family from New Hampshire would be the first couple to claim they had been taken aboard an alien spaceship in 1961. They were driving home on route 3 through the white mountains when they saw a light appear in the distance around 10 p.m. They would continue to follow the light and even stop to get a better look at it. The mystery behind Betty and Barney Hill is still unknown. Did these creatures really abduct them or was it all a myth? According to Betty and Barney Hill they had been hooked up to machines and were hypnotized (Dickey)
The third conspiracy theory is about how the government might just have a hand in the alien explanation. Are aliens so elusive that it is rare to have a reported glimpse of them? Or is it possible that the government plays a part in keeping them hidden? People have a wide range of opinions on what the government knows about aliens and what they don’t know. In the Atlantic article “according to the CIA, test and development flights of the U-2 and the Oxcart spy planes, accounted for more than half of all the UFO reports in the late 1950’s. (Graff).” The government wants us to believe that they know very little about aliens, when really they just might know more than we ever will. Does the government have secret flights and developments occurring? According to Graff “the military has more secret test flights, development projects, and special crafts that not a lot of people realize (Graff).” The secrets behind the government still remain unknown, they very well could be hiding these mysterious creatures from us. Or could it be possible they are just trying to protect us? Until someone can speak up, it will remain a mystery to us.
All three of these conspiracy theories have ties that bind them together, so it can be very possible that aliens are in fact real. It can be true that John Winthrop, Betty and Barney Hill really did hear and see these mysterious creatures. Many people today do believe that aliens could very well exist, approximately 56.9 percent ( Tara Suter). A town by the name of Roswell, located in New Mexico, definitely has many believers. The town of Roswell is well known for possibly being home to one of the first UFO crash sites. In the article Roswell,

Although the government says it was just a weather balloon, many people to this day still believe the theories of it being a UFO” ( history.com).Although this little town still holds these traditions every year and continues to believe the conspiracy it will still remain a mystery to the world. All three of these conspiracy theories could be true and hold more information from us. But it very well could all be a myth, are we believing these conspiracies because they are true or because we've always been told there could be extraterrestrial life beyond us. It all still remains a mystery today and the conspiracies continue to be told.
Conclusion
After researching the mysteries about aliens, it still amazes me that humans on earth have been trying to find extraterrestrial life since ancient and medieval times though it was only in the later middle ages of the first speculation about inhabited and extraterrestrial life ( Quora). These elusive creatures such aliens developed into three conspiracy theories:
1.Do aliens really exist?
2.Were Betty and Barney hill really abducted?
3.Does the government have a hand in the alien explanation?
Although no evidence can completely prove that aliens do exist, or that Betty and Barney Hill really were abducted aboard an alien spaceship, Or even that the government might just have a hand in the alien explanation, these mysterious creatures still remain an unsolved case and a conspiracy to continue to be told.
